Resolving disputes - introduction
We have had some very positive reactions to our piece on engagement
and resolution in our August newsletter. In particular people seem
to be interested in the mechanics of dispute resolution: how exactly
people who have fallen out over differences of interests or values
or priorities can come together to talk constructively.
This is a huge subject: conflict and negotiation are among the
most complex of human behaviours, and there is a real danger in
offering simplistic solutions. As we said in August, if we invested
as much in waging peace as we do in waging war, the world might
be a very different place.
Nevertheless, in response to requests for a straightforward list
of suggestions, we have drawn up Resolving
disputes: 10 strategies based on our experience. This is for
those who need something now. If your situation is really difficult,
please get in touch and we will try to help.
